Kevin Systrom is an American entrepreneurand programmer.

In 2010 he co-founded Instagram, a socialnetworking photo and video service, together with Mike Krieger.

Systrom was born in 1983 in Holliston, Massachusetts.

Both of his parents were managers of largecompanies.

He went to Middlesex School in Concord, wherehe took interest in programming and playing computer games.

He even made his own programmes to prank hisfriends.

After high school he became a student of Stanford University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in management science and engineering.

When he was a student, he won in the Mayfield fellows Program.

The fellowship led to his internship at Odeo,the company that later gave rise to Twitter.

It was the time when he got his first hands-on experience in the startup world. At the university he met Mike Krieger, wholater helped him create Instagram. After graduating from Stanford, he began hiscareer at Google, where he worked in a marketing team on such products as Gmail, Google Reader,Docs and others. He spent 2 years in Google.

Then he worked for a startup company Nextstop,but soon he quit this job, because he wanted to develop his own product.

Instagram Update For the Terms


Providing a safe and open service for a broad community requires that we all do our part.’ Again, common sense right? But then they say ‘You can’t violate (or help or encourage others to violate) these terms or our policies including, in particular, the Instagram community guidelines, Facebook platform terms and develop developer policies and music guidelines. A lot of ‘and’s’ in there but they seem to have a lot of different guidelines so.. Then continuing from there they say ‘If you post branded content you must comply with our branded content policies which require you to use our branded content tool.Learn how to report conduct or content in our help center.’

And so this is very interesting right here because I can speak from my own experience,

if you’re posting content to Instagram that might sound or look like it is some branded content and you’re not using the branded content tool to market it as branded content actually, then Instagram is going to notify you and they’re also going to potentially remove that posting because you’re not now at least you’re not playing under the rules and agreeing with the terms of service. And the way they can detect such postings is by the wording you use. Now there also might be other factors involved right there, I don’t know how it worksproperly but at least from my own experience I can tell you guys that the wording that you use is definitely going to tell Instagram whether or not that could be branded content and then the rest is going to follow.

So if you are using words like ‘branded content’ for example, very obvious. Or ‘paid post’ or ‘paid promotion’ or ‘collaboration with’ and then tag your partner for example, that you collaborated with then in all of those scenarios it is very very likely for Instagram to detect that as a branded content piece and then reach out to you for not using that branded content tool if you didn’t use that.

Now moving on from there the next interesting part right here in the terms of service is ‘You can’t use a domain name or URL in your username without our prior written consent.’

Now first question right here is how do   we get that prior written consent? That is a big mystery, a big question that could actually lead to some problems.

And then the second one is well, that strategy of using a URL or a domain name directly within your username is pretty common.

 A lot of users on Instagram actually do exactly that.

 So one popular example would be Vanessa Lau. If you don’t know her she’s also a social media coach etc. etc. You can see that her username is and then her website is so she’s actually doing exactly that what now with the updated terms of service is not allowed anymore.

 So that could be leading to some problems in the future and that means for all of us if you’re doing that,

if you’re using your username to promote your URL, your domain name then you should be changing that right now actually in order to stay free from any punishment or just having your account being shadowbanned, hidden in the search, etc. etc.

Now the next piece of information that I want to share with you guys is now within the community guidelines.

As I already  said they also changed just a little bit, just some minor changes but still important because we already touched on that subject in my earlier Artical, in my past post.

And so what they say is ‘Foster meaningful and genuine interactions.Help us stay spam-free by not artificially collecting likes, followers, or shares, posting repetitive comments or content, or repeatedly contacting people for commercial purposes without their consent.’

And then also they say ‘Don’t offer   money or giveaways of money in exchange for likes, followers, comments, or other engagement.’

And that is pretty interesting right here because first of all, they’re saying you’re not allowed to use any kind of software or bot or something along those lines to collect likes or generate followers.

But also you’re not allowed to repeatedly contact users on Instagram about your offers or something like that when you want to make money, want to make some revenue with your products or services.   And then also giveaways in some sort of like you’re exchanging money for your audience engaging with your content for example or following you that is also not allowed anymore.

And this has always been the same like they changed the wording on here and did some minor changes to make it more clear on what they’re trying to tell you but in general like what they’re saying has always been the same. Instagram never wanted us to be spammy on the platform, they never allowed software or something like that to collect likes, followers, etc.

But now they’re making it more clear and also they added the part with the giveaways which is interesting because giveaways are a common strategy to grow followers on Instagram.

Might be a risky territory right now with those new guidelines.

But what’s interesting now is they added a link right here,

if you click on that this window will open and in there it will tell you everything about  spam.

So everything we need to know when it comes to spam, what is spam, what kind of behavior is spam, what is not allowed to do and is categorized as spam by Instagram, etc. etc.

So you can also read   through that whole thing right here, link will be down below in the description because basically it is still the same.

There’s nothing new on there that people will be reading like wow, I would   have never guessed that is spam.

But still it’s interesting to have it as a full-on guideline that is now telling us exactly what is spam and whatnot and what we’re able and allowed to do and not.

So yeah, pretty interesting changes right here making it more clear and more   obvious what we can do on Instagram and what not and making it more transparent so to say because there has been a lot of confusion in the past with all of those new updates and those terms of service, community guidelines, etc. etc. And especially all of those strategies to grow followers that a lot of people were promoting that were always kinda   forbidden but nobody really knew and just copied that so now we really know what we’re allowed to do and what not and this is going to change the playing field on Instagram very dramatically.

So there you have it my friends, quick update on these changes to the Instagram terms of service and also community guidelines.

Instagram has announced a huge update that six English speaking countries can now searchon Instagram using keywords, which clearly means keyword search is going to be Instagram.

If we have to search something on Instagram, we would certainly go ahead and search through hashtags.

For example, hashtag YouTube growth, hashtag business, right? Or the second way is to just look for an accountradiation in the name section or the bio section.

For example, if you are looking for an Instagramspecialist, you will just go and dive Instagram.

And then people who have Instagram in theirname or bio section would pop up, right? But now Instagram will directly show you suchpredictions and pores that include exact those Tums.

After we have received this update, this meansthat you don’t have to use any number of hashtags, but you could use keywords in your captionsto maximize your visibility.

However, this is definitely a downside because Instagram in itself has announced that thisparticular search feature is limited and not so robust. It says that the keyword is limited to onlycertain general interests of the public and not every niche keyword exists in the search results.

 However, Instagram hasn’t become that robustsearch engine, but this particular update will definitely maximize your visibility on Instagram.

Biggest question is what kind of factors would affect the rank of the keyword search recite? What are the elements that we need to lookafter such that our posts would be ranked on? If you also look at this IDD post picturethat I have here, it also has positive thinking in the caption and the search bar term isalso positive thinking.

This means the algorithm is simply matchingthe words in the search bar.

Was this the caption I’ve tried the same thingwith multiple other keyword terms. If the keyword term is not present in thecaption, the algorithm first focuses on hashtag, which means that if the keyword is presentin the hashtag, that’s when it’s going to rank on both, otherwise it’s going to choosethe factor of relevancy, which means positivity, positive mindset is also slightly closer topositive thinking, right? So it is going to choose relevancy as a factorand rank your posts on the top.

The next element that we would slightly dig deeper into is Carla, as recency as for theupdate, Instagram has revealed that it would consider recency as well as in when the postwas uploaded onto the platform. However, it has not mentioned the duration,whether it is 24 hours, whether it is duties one day or anything of that sort, which meansthat if there are two posts that have been uploaded one after the other, the post thathas been uploaded for the latest time being, that would be the most recent posts apartfrom these three elements, it is also highly important for us to experiment using hashtagsand no hashtags because this keyword search update has come now onto Instagram. That being said, because of all these updates,if Instagram is planning to take SEO really seriously, it has a plenty of room to growwell because Instagram SEO is becoming so popular.

 Pinterest versus Instagram! Knowing me asa Pinterest marketing expert you probably might expect that Pinterest is going to win this comparison game but the truth is that there can be no winner because everything will depend on your type of business and your goals on the platform.

So what are regular users, not marketers, what are regular users doing on Pinterest? So on Pinterest, a user’s intent is primarily focused on the discovery and on curation of other users content, it’s similar to a search engine.

Users can use Pinterest to search for specific content, products, they can create visually appealing boards by pinning and grouping the content they discovered.

And what are regular users looking for on Instagram? they’re looking for a much more personal experience with the brands and with the people they follow on Instagram the content which you share on this platform should give you your audience a authentic view into your business or your personal brand. On Instagram, on the other hand, it’s very hard to get users off the platform Instagram doesn’t give you many options to add your links it’s basically just the link in the profile bio and also links from stories but keep in mind that stories are only available for accounts with over 10,000 followers and stories alive for only 24 hours so any post or photo you published can only work for you to drive traffic from Instagram fora maximum of 24 hours and then you have to publish a new story to keep getting more clicks or you have to use ads on Instagram on Pinterest you will link from a pin to your website and it can stay on the platform for many years and it will consistently drive you traffic another major difference between the platforms is that Pinterest works very similarly to Google it’s a visual search engine the main user activity on Pinterest isse arching for ideas and content curation meaning that users are saving pins to their boards based on the similarity of the topic so as a marketer or a business owner when you’re trying to grow on Pinterest you have to learn SEO search engine optimization basics and I have a cool Pinterest SEO checklist to help you get started with it I will give you a link to this checklist in the top right corner of the screen and in the description below this video you can download it and use it on your computer or you can even print it out. And even though Pinterest has certain features of a social media platform overall it’s very different from Instagram. Really not so important on Pinterest to actively work on growing your following numbers it doesn’t matter that much if you have 10,000 followers or 50,000 on Pinterest that matters is your traffic volume from this platform and how well keywords your pins and your boards and your pin design.
